A body ejecting mass at constant rate Q>0 and relative exhaust speed V>0, against quadratic drag αu2, has remaining mass m=m0−Qt. A short-interval momentum balance gives mu˙=QV−αu2. From rest, separation of variables gives
u(t)=αQVtanh(QαVlogm0−Qtm0).

For final mass mf>0, this formula applies until t=(m0−mf)/Q. The zero-drag limit is the rocket equation uf=Vlog(m0/mf). Two dimensionless variables are αV/Q and m0/mf.
