A Daubechies wavelet of order q is a compact support orthonormal wavelet with q vanishing moments and a minimal-length finite refinement filter. The minimal filter has 2q taps, giving support length 2q−1 in the standard dyadic normalization. Its low-pass symbol has a zero of order q at π. Increasing order improves polynomial cancellation and, for sufficiently large order, regularity, at the price of a wider support.
