Let A be invertible over an algebraically closed field. If Am is diagonalizable for some m>0, then A is diagonalizable. Indeed, a nontrivial Jordan block A∣E=λI+N has λ=0 and
(λI+N)m=λmI+mλm−1N+⋯.
