For a monovalent three-dimensional free electron gas, the spin-summed molar density of states is g(EF)=3NA/(2EF). Combining the shell estimate Cel=3kB2g(EF)T with Cla=(12π4/5)R(T/θD)3 gives the displayed nonzero crossover. The controlled Sommerfeld expansion replaces 3 by π2/3 and multiplies T∗2 by π2/9. A Fermi energy alone does not determine the DOS in an unspecified band structure.
