With a fixed planetary pericentre, the linear secular equation z˙=iA(z−Zf) has solution z=Zf+(z(0)−Zf)eiAt. An initially circular orbit follows z=Zf(1−eiAt), a counterclockwise circle in the complex plane centered at the forced eccentricity Zf, with free eccentricity amplitude Zf. Its maximum orbital eccentricity is 2Zf and its phase-averaged mean orbital eccentricity is 4Zf/π.
