For q¨=−ω2q+g2q2+g3q3+(τ+f1q+f2q2)q˙+⋯, the Hopf bifurcation amplitude equation has cubic coefficient (f2+f1g2/ω2)/8 in the leading position amplitude. The quadratic restoring term produces mean shift g2r2/(2ω2) and second harmonic −g2r2cos(2ωt)/(6ω2). Consequently ⟨qq˙2⟩=g2r4/8 and ⟨q2q˙2⟩=ω2r4/8, giving the coefficient by energy averaging. A negative value gives a supercritical stable limit cycle; a zero value requires higher-order analysis.
