Living polymerization is chain-growth polymerization without chain termination or irreversible chain transfer. A linear mean degree of polymerization versus feed conversion additionally needs the fixed-chain assumptions in polymerization; reversibility of monomer addition is not required. See Shipp, IUPAC workshop, slide 50.
