Molar absorption coefficient (ε=A/(lc))

The decadic molar absorption coefficient specifies absorbance per geometric length and molar concentration. With l in centimetres and c in molL−1, ε has units Lmol−1cm−1; its SI unit is m2mol−1.[ref]
The units cancel in εlc. Since 1L=10−3m3 and 1cm=10−2m, one Lmol−1cm−1 equals 0.1m2mol−1. Specify the wavelength and chemical solution conditions when giving a molar absorption coefficient: changing the absorbing chemical species can change it even at fixed total analytical concentration.
