For a dimensionless chemostat with Monod equation kinetics,
n′=α1+ccn−n,c′=β−c−1+ccn,
(1)
the total nutrient equivalent z=c+n/α satisfies z′=β−z. The positive equilibrium is c∗=1/(α−1), n∗=α(β−c∗), provided α>1 and β>c∗. The Jacobian matrix has eigenvalues −1 and −n∗/(1+c∗)2, so the positive equilibrium is locally asymptotically stable.
