An ideal open circuit permits no conduction electric current through a terminal pair, corresponding to infinite load electrical impedance. At the end of a lossless transmission line, its voltage-wave reflection coefficient is and the terminal current is zero. Real open terminals may retain parasitic capacitance and radiation loss.
