For ϵ=km/γ2≪1, momentum relaxes in τm=m/γ while the trap relaxes in τk=γ/k. After the fast transient, the slow amplitude is x0+τmv0+O(ϵ). Neglecting the initial-velocity contribution additionally requires ∣τmv0∣≪∣x0∣; small Reynolds number alone does not prove this condition.
