Use the commutator derivation identity [A,BC]=[A,B]C+B[A,C] and the orbital angular momentum commutation relations. They give
[j^z,j^x2][j^z,j^y2][j^z,j^z2]=iℏ(j^yj^x+j^xj^y),=−iℏ(j^xj^y+j^yj^x),=0.
(1)
The first two expressions cancel on addition, so
[j^z,j^2]=0.
(2)
The same argument works for each component of the angular momentum operator.
