One quantum in an E2g normal mode gives an E2g vibrational pair. The electronic factor is B2u, hence
Γfinal=B2u⊗E2g=E1u.
(1)
This follows by multiplying the characters of the two group representations. In particular, multiplication of E2 by B2 produces E1 in the hexagonal group, and the inversion parities multiply as u×g=u. The resulting vibronic state is twofold degenerate.
