Use the product rule for the divergence of the vector field F=ϕ∇ψ−ψ∇ϕ:
∇⋅F=∇ϕ⋅∇ψ+ϕ∇2ψ−∇ψ⋅∇ϕ−ψ∇2ϕ=ϕ∇2ψ−ψ∇2ϕ.
(1)
The two dot products cancel. Apply the divergence theorem with outward unit normal vector n to obtain Green's second identity:
∫V(ϕ∇2ψ−ψ∇2ϕ)dV=∫S(ϕ∇ψ−ψ∇ϕ)⋅ndS.
(2)
Smoothness of the functions and boundary supplies the regularity needed for the divergence theorem.
