A process Mn is a P-martingale relative to the filtration (Fn) when it is adapted, each Mn is integrable, and
EP[Mn∣Fn−1]=Mn−1,1≤n≤N.
(1)
Here adapted means Mn is Fn-measurable, and integrable means EP∣Mn∣<∞. Thus its present value is the conditional mean of its next value given all present information.
