Write Q=1rT−RI, with r=Rπ. Then πT1=1 and
πTQ=rT−RπT=0.
(1)
Thus π is a stationary probability vector, a left eigenvector for eigenvalue zero. If any probability vector ν is stationary, the same calculation gives νTQ=rT−RνT=0, forcing ν=π. Hence the equilibrium is unique, even if some rj vanish and the chain is not irreducible; those zero-rate states are transient or inaccessible rather than extra stationary classes.
