Apply the product rule and the preceding gradient formula to the vector field Fi=f(r)xi. Summing over the repeated index gives
∂iFi=f′(r)rxixi+f(r)δii=rf′(r)+nf(r).
(1)
Here δii=n for the Kronecker delta. Thus the divergence and curl of a radial vector field give, in any dimension,
∇⋅[f(r)x]=rf′(r)+nf(r).
