a
Choose a nonzero α∈a. It is an algebraic integer, with monic minimal polynomial
αd+cd−1αd−1+⋯+c1α+c0=0,cj∈Z.
(1)
Its constant coefficient is nonzero, since otherwise the polynomial would have the root zero and be divisible by its variable, contradicting irreducibility and α=0. Rearranging gives c0=−α(αd−1+⋯+c1). The expression in parentheses lies in the ring of integers of a number field, so the ideal property gives c0∈a. Hence
a∩Z={0}.
