Let (xn) be a Cauchy sequence in a compact metric space X. By sequential compactness of a compact metric space, it has a convergent subsequence xnj→x∈X. Given ε>0, choose N such that d(xm,xn)<ε/2 whenever m,n≥N, and then choose j such that nj≥N and d(xnj,x)<ε/2. For every n≥N, the triangle inequality gives
d(xn,x)≤d(xn,xnj)+d(xnj,x)<ε.

Thus the whole sequence converges to x. Every Cauchy sequence converges in X, so X is a complete metric space.
