Take the parallel at height one,
γ(t)=(2cost,2sint,1).
(1)
It has constant speed 2. Its distance from the axis is the constant ρ=2, and its tangent is parallel to the parallel, so θ=0 and it satisfies the Clairaut first integral for a surface of revolution.
However,
γ¨=(−2cost,−2sint,0),
(2)
whereas a normal vector to x2+y2−z2=1 at γ(t) is
(2cost,2sint,−1).
(3)
These vectors are not parallel. By the ambient acceleration criterion for a surface geodesic, γ is not a geodesic. Thus constant speed together with Clairaut's relation is not sufficient for the geodesic equations.
