Let fn be the continuous triangular bump
fn(x)=⎩⎨⎧n2x,n(2−nx),0,0≤x≤1/n,1/n≤x≤2/n,2/n≤x≤1,n≥2,
(1)
and set f1=0. At x=0 every term is zero, and each fixed x>0 eventually lies outside the support, so fn→0 pointwise. The triangle has base 2/n and height n, hence
∫01fn(x)dx=1(n≥2),∫010dx=0.
(2)
This concentrating triangular bump shows that pointwise convergence does not preserve integrals, even for continuous functions on a compact interval.
