The time of the n-th event of a Poisson process. At positive rate λ, the Poisson interarrival times Tj−Tj−1, with T0=0, are independent and identically distributed random variables with the rate-λ exponential distribution. In particular, Tn has expected value n/λ and variance n/λ2. The inverse-count identity is {Tn≤t}={Nt≥n}.
