For Ni=a2B,i, γij=a2[(1−2Φ)δij+2E,ij] and Kij=−(γ˙ij−DiNj−DjNi)/(2N), put χ+=a2(B−E˙)/Nˉ. Then Kij=−Hδij+(Φ˙/Nˉ+HΨ)δij+∂i∂jχ+ and κ=3(Φ˙/Nˉ+HΨ)+Δχ+. Defining χ=−χ+ instead makes the trace-free tensor coefficient negative and the trace gradient term −Δχ. A sign change must affect both pieces.
