Quasi-geostrophic streamfunction ($\psi$)

The quasi-geostrophic streamfunction defines horizontal velocity by $u=-{\psi }_y$ and $v={\psi }_x$. For a one-layer free-surface model, geostrophic balance gives $\psi =g\eta /f_0$.
