For functions f and g taking values in the same field, their quotient of functions is defined by (f/g)(x)=f(x)/g(x) on the common domain of a function restricted to points where g(x)=0. Thus f(x)=1 and g(x)=x on the real line give a quotient of functions defined only for x=0.
