The shock compression ratio is the downstream-to-upstream density ratio. For a strong perfect-gas shock,
χ=ρ0ρ1=γ−1γ+1.
(1)
In the upstream rest frame, the downstream velocity is 2Vs/(γ+1) and its pressure is 2ρ0Vs2/(γ+1).
