Let P be a bounded linear operator on a complex Banach space with P2=P, P=0 and P=I. Its image of a linear map and kernel contain nonzero vectors, giving eigenvalues one and zero. For λ∈/{0,1},
(λI−P)−1=λ−1(I−P)+(λ−1)−1P.

Direct multiplication proves the formula, so the spectrum is exactly {0,1} and its spectral radius is one. Since Pj=P and ∥P∥≥1, the spectral radius formula is explicit: infj≥1∥Pj∥1/j=limj→∞∥P∥1/j=1.
