On a sphere of radius a, ∇sn=P/a, ∇s⋅n=2/a, and Δsn=−2n/a2. For a constant vector U, ∇s⋅(PU)=−2U⋅n/a. These identities simplify dipolar surface diffusion and interfacial transport.
