For independent localized two-state moments of projections ±μ along a field, the one-ion partition function is Z1=2cosh[μB/(kBT)]. Its thermal mean gives M=nμtanh[μB/(kBT)]. A J=1/2 ion has μ=gJμB/2, so the special value μ=μB additionally assumes gJ=2. At weak field the SI volume susceptibility is χH=μ0nμ2/(kBT), neglecting demagnetizing corrections.
