A stellar gravity mode is a nonradial stellar oscillation restored by buoyancy in stable stratification. In the local interior approximation it propagates where ω2<N2,Sℓ2​. Such modes are distinct from stellar acoustic modes and do not have a radial ℓ=0 gravity-wave branch.
