A geometrically irregular attractor need not have chaotic exponential separation of nearby trajectories. Quasiperiodically forced systems provide primary examples in which strangeness and a positive largest Lyapunov exponent do not coincide. Consequently a fractal-looking numerical plot alone cannot establish chaos. [ref]
