Thermal ionization of excitons

Thermal energy comparable with an exciton binding energy promotes dissociation and often washes out narrow bound-exciton resonances. Comparing $k_{B}T$ with binding energy is a scale estimate, not an exact disappearance criterion: densities, screening, oscillator strength and linewidths also matter.
