A thermal radiation shield interposes a surface to reduce radiative heat exchange between an apparatus and its surroundings. temperature, emissivity and view factors determine its effectiveness; conductive supports and gas transport remain separate heat paths. A thermal radiation shield is not automatically an ionizing-radiation shield.
