An approximation is uniform on a specified domain when its error bound holds throughout that domain as the small parameter tends to zero. In a matched asymptotic expansion, adding the inner and outer approximations and subtracting their common overlap produces a composite approximation. Checking only a fixed point away from a boundary layer does not establish uniformity.
