For an oriented smooth surface and compatible boundary orientation, apply Stokes theorem to ϕk for an arbitrary constant vector k. Since ∇×(ϕk)=∇ϕ×k, its surface integral is k⋅∫SdS×∇ϕ. The boundary integral is k⋅∮ϕdx. Equality for every k proves the displayed vector identity. Reversing both orientations preserves the identity.
