For a>0, the cardioid r=a(1+cosθ) traces its boundary once over 0≤θ≤2π. The polar area element gives
A=2a2∫02π(1+cosθ)2dθ=23πa2.
(1)
The polar arc length integrand is 2a∣cos(θ/2)∣. Splitting at the cusp parameter θ=π gives perimeter 8a. The powers of a distinguish the scaling of area and length.
