The BCS anomalous average is the pair expectation ⟨bk⟩=⟨c−k↓ck↑⟩. In the BCS ground state it is ukvk=Δk/(2Ek) for real gap at zero temperature. At temperature T it becomes Δktanh(Ek/(2kBT))/(2Ek). Substitution into the pairing-field definition gives the BCS gap equation.
