Let E1,E2,E3 be independent random variables with the standard normal distribution and set Z1=E1, Z2=Z1+E2, Z3=Z2−Z1+E3. The complete acyclic graph with edges 1→2, 1→3, 2→3 is causally minimal: deleting each edge imposes a false marginal or conditional independence. Yet Z1⊥Z3 because Z3=E2+E3, so faithfulness of a directed acyclic graph fails. Nonzero structural coefficients alone do not ensure faithfulness.
