Eliashberg theory retains the frequency dependence of the electron–phonon interaction and the normal and anomalous electronic self-energies in a strong-coupling treatment of conventional superconductivity. The phonon spectral function and a screened Coulomb pseudopotential enter the pairing equations. High phonon frequencies alone do not specify a transition temperature without the coupling strength and competing repulsion.
