For energy with kinetic term ℏ2∣Dηψ∣2/(2m), η=±1, variation gives −ℏ2Dη2ψ/(2m)+(α+β∣ψ∣2)ψ=0 and current j=ηqℏIm(ψ∗∇ψ)/m−q2∣ψ∣2A/m. Thus changing the sign of the covariant derivative changes the phase-gradient term of the current. The displayed energy, field equation and current must use the same convention.
