A generalized Vandermonde matrix evaluates a chosen list of functions at interpolation nodes . For a basis of polynomials of polynomial degree at most and distinct nodes, it is an invertible matrix by uniqueness of polynomial interpolation. Choosing monomials recovers the ordinary Vandermonde matrix.
