A heating curve records temperature against accumulated supplied heat under a specified constraint. Within one thermodynamic phase, its slope is dT/dQ=1/CX, where CX is the constrained heat capacity. A latent heat plateau instead records changing phase fraction at the phase coexistence temperature. The sensible heat example combines two sloping intervals and a melting plateau in one heating budget.
