An inviscid core is the part of a high-Reynolds number flow outside thin wall or shear layers, where viscosity is negligible at the retained asymptotic order. It obeys the Euler equations for an inviscid fluid. Its tangential velocity need not satisfy no slip at a material wall; adjoining viscous boundary layers supply that condition and can influence the core through displacement and pressure matching.
