b
Solving the implicit equation for y when Δx=0 gives
y=yA+ΔxΔy(x−xA),m=xB−xAyB−yA.
(1)
Here “gradient” means the slope dy/dx, rather than the gradient (a,b) of an implicit defining function. If Δx=0 and A=B, the straight line is vertical and has no finite slope. If Δy=0 and Δx=0, its slope is zero.
