Fix 0<c<1 and choose Rc, independently of X, with the normal distribution
Rc∼N((1−c)μ,(1−c2)σ2).
(1)
The linear combination of independent normal random variables cX+Rc is normal. Its expected value is cμ+(1−c)μ=μ and its variance is c2σ2+(1−c2)σ2=σ2. Hence cX+Rc=dX for every c, proving that every specified normal distribution is a self-decomposable distribution.
