For weak potentials, Boltzmann electrons give δne=neeϕ/(kBT) against fixed ions. Poisson's equation becomes ∇2ϕ=ϕ/λD2 outside a test charge, giving a Yukawa potential with λD=ϵ0kBT/(nee2). For a small electron displacement x relative to fixed ions, charge separation produces restoring field E=neex/ϵ0, so mx¨=−nee2x/ϵ0. Hence ωp=nee2/(ϵ0me). The two formulas respectively encode thermal screening and electron inertia.
