The mean advective fluid speed within the connected pore volume, distinct from Darcy velocity defined per bulk cross-sectional area. For uniform porosity ϕ and saturated flow, v=q/ϕ. Parcel travel times and solute advection use this velocity, while pressure-flow relations normally use the bulk-area Darcy flux.
