For positive mixture weights wj summing to one, set Cj=∑i≤jwi and choose J=j when Cj−1≤U<Cj, where U has a uniform distribution. Then V=(U−CJ−1)/wJ has a uniform distribution independently of J: for 0≤v≤1, Pr(J=j,V≤v)=wjv. This permits exact finite mixture model sampling with a recycled continuous random variable.
