For squared loss E=∑k(tk−zk)2/2, let ek=(tk−zk)gk′(xk) and ej=gj′(xj)∑kwjkek. The chain rule gives ∂E/∂wjk=−ekzj and ∂E/∂wij=−ejzi. A gradient descent step of size η uses Δwjk=ηekzj and Δwij=ηejzi, with every derivative evaluated at the same pre-update weights.
