Using layer depth d and thermal diffusivity κ gives time scale d2/κ, velocity scale κ/d, and perturbation pressure scale ρ0κ2/d2. With temperature scale ΔT, the Linearized Boussinesq equations have viscous coefficient Prandtl number Pr=ν/κ and buoyancy coefficient RaPr, where Rayleigh number Ra=gαTΔTd3/(νκ).
